It is possible to convert any file into a PDF by using a free program called CutePDF. A PDF is necessary when you would want to send a fax through the Inspection Support Network™, for example. In this post we will convert a text file to a PDF using a fresh install of CleanPDF.
First, you need to go to the CutePDF website at www.cutepdf.com. Click the download link for the free CutePDF Writer, indicated by the red arrow.
After the program downloads, click the run button on the window that pops up. The program is called cutewriter.exe.
Review the license agreement, mark the accept box, and click Next.
Then, click the Install button and the program will begin installing.
Another box will pop up asking if you want to install an additional part of the program. Click Yes.
After the installation is complete, a window that looks like this will pop up. It is included here for your reference, as it contains information to Uninstall if needed.
Now, for this example, we will convert a .txt file to a PDF. The process will be similar for any file, you simply need to be able to ‘Print’ the file you want to convert.
Open the file you would like to convert to a PDF, and locate the print command. Under Notepad, it is located under File –> Print. It is the same path for Microsoft Word.
Select the CutePDF Writer as your printer, and click Print. Nothing will print, it will just bring up a window for where you would like to save the newly created PDF.
Select where you would like your file to be saved, in this case we are saving it to the desktop.
Name your file in the field.
Make sure that the Save as type field is set at PDF files.
Navigate to your newly created PDF file and use it for whatever purpose you need!
